Just wanted to say thanks for this. Couldn't get it working until I found your article here.
Used this same process on openSUSE 11.1
To restart SSH I used the command
/etc/init.d/sshd restart

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, parts 1 & 2 don't say how to create a whole root zone either (unless I missed something).

I did eventually find the answer here:

http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/Zones

Essentially, you when you do the zonecfg, and you do the "create", you pass give it "create -b" (now that was inuititive [sarcasm]). I would think, if you are going to add this anywhere, that you'd want to cover this here, where you talk about whole root vs. sparse root. Perhaps this comment will suffice to help others who are seeking the same answer?

Thanks for stopping by Garry! This is part 3 of the series, so have a look at part one and part two for instructions on how to leave these settings out: http://solaris.reys.net/solaris-10-zones-part-one-a-working-example/ and http://solaris.reys.net/zones-in-solaris-10-part-two-types-of-resources/

Feel free to ask if you still need help.

Unfortunately, your article leaves out the important bit of information that everyone else's does - how do you create a whole root zone?

Obviously I want to remove these inherit-pkg-dir settings when I build out the zone, but how???

Hi Oscar,

it's been quite some time ago - I have upgraded a few times since then so don't have neither the motherboard nor the driver anymore.

The post above has the version I had used: skgesol_x64v8.12.1.3.tar.Z, just google this filename up to get more details.

Good luck!

Hi Jesper, yes Solaris Express (lately SXDE - Solaris Express Developer Edition) program was discontinued in January 2010, so it's only OpenSolaris for now if you're after the latest changes in the OS.

Solaris Express seems to have disappeared. I can only find references to OpenSolaris, my understanding was that Express was a hybrid between Open and (real) Solaris... Will it be back or has it been discontinued for good?

Thanks!!! This tip just made my week. I was able to fix a problem that had the team stalled for over a month in less than a day. I've been soaking up the Internals book etc but this tip was clean, quick, and easy to understand. Thanks much!!!

Hello,
I have a severe issue on Solaris Zone with IP exclusive.
Any help would be greatly appeciate.

I let you see my configuration:

Each zone and global zone shares bge0 and are on the same subnet
Each secondary zone has exclusive control on secondary interface for private network.

There isn't any problem to communicate with computers on the LAN (outside global zone) but it's impossible to communicate (TCP/UDP/ICMP) beetween the zone.

traceroute don't find the way:

It appears that you can use the "broken_shadow" flag with pam_unix.so to have it ignore any errors when trying to open the shadow file.

Is it possible to have multiple pid probes like so (if you want to monitor two or more processes):

#!/usr/bin/dtrace -s
#pragma D option quiet

pid$1:::entry {
printf("%s:%s:%s:%s\n", probeprov, probemod, probefunc, probename);
}

pid$2:::entry {
printf("%s:%s:%s:%s\n", probeprov, probemod, probefunc, probename);
}

You said:

Quite ofter we’d like to know what happens to a particular process on a system, and if we’re using DTrace for our investigation, we’d probably use the $target variable (I’ve already spoked about it in the past)
