Serendipity

Today I've completed s9y messages file translation and submitted it to their development team - so, with any luck, Russian language support will be in the next s9y release. I think it's really cool!

One more thing - whenever they incorporate my translation, I'll be able to upgrade this blog here and start using lots of new cool features! For instance, there is even a multilingual entries plugin already, but it needs a bit of work before I can use it here.

I like this blog engine more and more every day! The development team is very friendly and active, it's easy to get things done... Today they've release the first beta of a multilingual entries plugin which allows creating entries in few differnet languages. I've already tried it in my test blog, and it just works!

Who knows, maybe I'll start writing in two languages sooner than I think.

Очень впечатлился обратной ссылкой с Bryan Cantrill's Observation Deck, и решил, что, действительно,нужно чтобы и на английском языке могли мои записи читать все желающие.

Так и родился апдейд к одному из плагинов этого движка, который называется Babelfish. Потратил сегодня какое-то время на то, чтобы разобраться, как этот апдейт добавить в соответствующее CVS-дерево движка Serendipity, и вот теперь всё круто!

Теперь внизу каждой записи, справа, есть маленькими буковками написанная ссылка: Translate to: en. Пока что только на английский переводится, но этого будет более чем достаточно. Перевод делается с помощью Altavista's Babel Fish.

Step by step, I'm learning this blog engine - Serendipity. They also call it s9y. After few days and lots of questions, I've decided to recall my php coding skills and create a separate category here on this blog.

Firstly, an interface translation - I'm still working on it. When I finish translating the interface into Russian, I'll give it to the blog engine's authors and they'll include it in the default s9y distribution. Apart from working on this translation, I'm also actively looking for a good blog theme - most of the ones I've seen so far don't look as good as I'd like them to.

Secondly, blog plugins - I'm sure I haven't seen even all the default ones so far, so if you notice something magically appearing and disappearing on the side panel, don't worry - I'm looking for the best combination of all the plugins. I have a separate playground blog specifically for plugins testing, but sometimes I choose to activate them here.

Also, I'll probably be posting some blog engine news here, I like s9ya lot and I'll try to keep an eye on its development.

Убил гораздо больше времени, чем предполагал, на перевод блога в utf-8 и подмену сайтов. Даже в какой-то момент пришлось закрыть сайт паролем на где-то полчаса, ибо испортил всё что только можно ;)

Зато теперь всё должно работать просто на ура! И RSS фиды, наконец-то, тоже!
